Overview

The Candar dynasty, also known as the Beylik of Isfendiyar or the Isfendiyar dynasty, was an Oghuz Turkic princely Anatolian dynasty. Founded in 1291 by Şemseddin Yaman Candar Bey, it reigned over territories in present-day Turkey, corresponding to provinces such as Kastamonu, Sinop, and Zonguldak. This region was historically known as Paphlagonia. The dynasty had several capitals, including Eflani (1291–1309), Kastamonu (1309–1398), and Sinop (1398–1461). The Candar dynasty was dissolved in 1461 when it was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire by Sultan Mehmed II.
