Overview
The State of Cao was an ancient Chinese vassal state during the Zhou dynasty, founded around 1046 BCE by Shu Zhenduo of Cao, a son of King Wen of Zhou. Its capital was Taoqiu, located in what is now Dingtao County, Shandong Province, on the North China Plain. The state was situated about 50 miles east of the Yellow River's bend, bordered by Wey to the northwest, Lu to the northeast, and Song to the southeast. Cao existed until its dissolution in 487 BCE.
