Overview
The Catalan Company, also known as the Great Catalan Company, was a mercenary company founded in 1302. Led by Roger de Flor, it comprised almogavar veterans who became unemployed after the 1302 Peace of Caltabellotta. The Byzantine Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos hired the company to combat the growing power of the Anatolian beyliks. This 14th-century mercenary group was dissolved in 1390.
