Overview
The Centralist Republic of Mexico, also known as the Central Republic, was a unitary political regime established in Mexico on October 23, 1835. This regime was founded under a new constitution, the Siete Leyes, after conservatives repealed the federalist Constitution of 1824, ending the First Mexican Republic. It lasted until August 22, 1846, when the Constitution of 1824 was restored at the beginning of the Mexican-American War. This period was characterized by conservative rule, though political and economic instability, including military coups and secession attempts, continued.
