Overview
Chimor, also known as the Kingdom of Chimor or Chimú Empire, was a political grouping of the Chimú culture that arose around 900 CE, succeeding the Moche culture. It was the largest kingdom in the Late Intermediate Period, encompassing 1,000 kilometers of modern-day Peruvian coastline. According to oral history, its capital, Chan Chan, was founded by Taycanamo. Chimor was conquered by the Inca emperor Topa Inca Yupanqui around 1470, about fifty years before the arrival of the Spanish in the region.
