Overview
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP), also known as the Communist Party of China (CPC), is the founding and ruling party of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Founded on July 23, 1921, with assistance from the Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and the Communist International, the CCP emerged victorious in the Chinese Civil War against the Kuomintang. Under the chairmanship of Mao Zedong, the party proclaimed the establishment of the PRC in October 1949. Since then, the CCP has governed China, maintaining sole control over the country's armed forces and law enforcement. As of 2024, it is the world's second-largest political party by membership, with over 100 million members.
