Overview
The County of Armagnac was a historic county of the Duchy of Gascony, established in Aquitaine (now France) in 601. Situated between the Adour and Garonne rivers in the lower foothills of the Pyrenees, the title of 'Count of Armagnac' was created in 960. Following the death of Charles de Lorraine, Comte d'Armagnac, in 1751, the title was absorbed into the Crown lands of France, with King Louis XV taking the title. The county was disestablished in 1791 after France was divided into departments, though it remains an important natural region of France.
