Overview
Roussillon was a historical province of France, founded in 1659 and dissolved in 1790. It largely corresponded to the County of Roussillon and part of the County of Cerdagne, which were formerly part of the Principality of Catalonia. This area is now considered part of Northern Catalonia or French Catalonia, roughly aligning with the modern French département of Pyrénées-Orientales. It was also part of the former region of Languedoc-Roussillon, now Occitanie.
