Overview
The Duchy of Silesia, a medieval provincial duchy of Poland, was founded in 1138 CE with its capital at Wrocław. Located in the historic region of Silesia, it was formed under the Piast dynasty. Soon after its formation, it fragmented into various Silesian duchies. By 1327, the remaining Duchy of Vratislava and most other duchies ruled by the Silesian Piasts came under the suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia. Poland's King Casimir III the Great renounced his rights to Silesia in the 1335 Treaty of Trentschin, completing the acquisition. The Duchy of Silesia was dissolved in 1742 CE.
