Overview
The Emirate of Bukhara was an Uzbek absolute monarchy in Central Asia, existing from 1785 to 1920. Its capital was Bukhara, and it occupied the land between the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, formerly known as Transoxiana. The emirate's core territory was the fertile land along the lower Zarafshon river, with urban centers including Samarqand and Bukhara. It was ruled by the Turco-Mongol Manghit tribe and was contemporaneous with the Khanate of Khiva and the Khanate of Kokand. The Emirate of Bukhara ceased to exist in 1920 with the establishment of the Bukharan People's Soviet Republic.
