Overview
The French Second Republic was the second republican government of France, existing from 1848 to 1852. It was founded on February 24, 1848, following the overthrow of King Louis-Philippe in the February Revolution, which was part of a larger revolutionary wave across Europe. The republic aimed to restore the values of the First French Republic, adopting its motto of "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité." Its constitution limited the president to a single four-year term. However, its first and only president, Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, overthrew the republic in a self-coup d'état starting in 1851, leading to its dissolution on December 2, 1852, and the proclamation of the Second French Empire.
