Overview
Galatia was an ancient area located in the highlands of central Anatolia, roughly corresponding to the modern Turkish provinces of Ankara and Eskişehir. It was named after the Gauls from Thrace who settled there in the 3rd century BC. This followed the Gallic invasion of the Balkans in 279 BC, at which point they became a small, transient foreign tribe in the region.
