Overview
The Galuh Kingdom was a medieval Sundanese kingdom in what is now Indonesia, specifically the eastern part of Tatar Sunda (West Java and Banyumasan region of Central Java). Founded in 669 CE, it emerged as a breakaway state from Tarumanagara around the 7th century. Its territory traditionally spanned from the Citarum River in the west to the Cipamali and Cisarayu Rivers in the east, encompassing the Central and Eastern Parahyangan cultural regions. The kingdom's capital moved over time, from Karangkamulyan in Ciamis Regency, to Saunggalah in Kuningan, and then Kawali, north of present-day Ciamis. The Galuh Kingdom dissolved in 1482 CE.
