Overview

The Independent State of Croatia was a World War II-era quasi-state established on 10 April 1941 in parts of occupied Yugoslavia after the Axis invasion. It was a protectorate of Fascist Italy from 1941 to 1943 and a puppet state of Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1945. Its territory included much of modern Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, with some parts of modern Serbia and Slovenia. The state was ruled by the fascist Ustase under Ante Pavelic and targeted Serbs, Jews, Roma, anti-fascist Croats, dissident Croats, and Bosnian Muslims.
