Overview
Âu Lạc was a former country or supposed polity that covered parts of modern-day Guangxi and northern Vietnam. It was founded in 257 BCE by Thục Phán (King An Dương) as a merger of Nam Cương (Âu Việt) and Văn Lang (Lạc Việt). Its capital was Cổ Loa, located in present-day Hanoi in the Red River Delta. Âu Lạc succumbed to the state of Nanyue in 179 BCE, though other sources indicate its dissolution in 207 BCE or 208 BCE.
