Terms of Service

Last updated: April 2, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account, checking the registration consent box, or otherwise using the public Sholu service ("Platform"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you use the Platform on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

2. Who Provides the Service

The current public Sholu service is operated by Batyr Raiymbek through sholu.app. If the operator or legal entity changes, we will update these Terms and the effective date on this page.

3. Eligibility and Accounts

Sholu is an interactive world-history atlas with maps, timelines, articles, and community features. The public Platform is available in English, Kazakh, and Russian.

  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account
  • You must provide a valid email address and keep your account information reasonably accurate
  • You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for activity that occurs under your account
  • We may require email verification before activating or restoring certain account features
  • You must promptly notify us at support@sholu.app if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization
  • Unless we approve otherwise, one person may maintain only one account

4. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Platform responsibly and in compliance with law.

  • No harassment, hate speech, threats, or personal attacks
  • No spam, deceptive promotion, or unauthorized advertising
  • No plagiarism or misleading attribution - cite sources where appropriate
  • No illegal content or illegal conduct
  • No automated scraping or data extraction unless we clearly permit it
  • No attempts to access other users' accounts, bypass security controls, or interfere with rate limits
  • No malware, exploit attempts, reverse engineering intended to compromise the Platform, or other abusive technical behavior

5. User Content and License

You may contribute content through forum posts, article suggestions, article drafts, and Komekshi conversations. You are responsible for the content you submit and for making sure you have the right to share it.

License to Sholu

By submitting content, you grant Sholu a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, distribute, translate, and adapt your contributions as needed for formatting and presentation on the Platform. You retain ownership of your content. You may request removal, but we may keep limited copies where necessary for legal, security, moderation, or archival reasons.

6. Moderation, Suspension, and Termination

We may review, reject, remove, or limit content and may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, create legal or security risk, or abuse the Platform. Admin and moderation decisions are final for operating the service. You may stop using the Platform at any time. If you want your account deleted, contact support@sholu.app; some records may be retained as described in the Privacy Policy.

7. AI Features

Komekshi (the AI assistant) uses Google Gemini to generate responses. AI-generated content:

  • May contain inaccuracies - always verify historical claims independently
  • Is provided for educational and informational purposes only
  • Should not be treated or cited as a primary source

8. Intellectual Property

The Platform, including its design, code, original text, branding, and compiled datasets, is owned by Sholu or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive right to use the public service in accordance with these Terms. Map tiles and third-party data remain subject to their own licenses.

9. Service Availability and Changes

We may add, change, pause, or remove features to improve the Platform, maintain security, or comply with law. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, or permanent availability of any specific feature.

10. Disclaimers

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" to the maximum extent permitted by law. Historical data and AI-assisted explanations may contain errors or omissions, and you should verify important information independently before relying on it.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sholu is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to your use of the Platform. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will revise the "Last updated" date on this page and, for material changes, may provide additional notice such as email or an in-product notice. If you continue using the Platform after the updated Terms take effect, you agree to them. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Platform.

13. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before starting a formal legal claim, please contact support@sholu.app so we can try to resolve the dispute informally. If mandatory consumer or privacy laws in your place of residence give you additional rights, those rights remain unaffected.
