Overview
Éire is the Irish language name for "Ireland," used for both the island of Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Republic of Ireland is a sovereign state governing 85% of the island's landmass, distinct from Northern Ireland (Tuaisceart Éireann), which covers the remaining northeast. While Éire is sometimes used in English, with or without the síneadh fada accent, this usage is considered controversial.
