Overview

The Hashemite Arab Federation was a short-lived confederation formed on February 14, 1958, between the Hashemite kingdoms of Iraq and Jordan. It was established by King Faisal II of Iraq and King Hussein of Jordan as a response to the United Arab Republic's formation. Although its name suggested a federal structure, it functioned as a confederation. The union lasted only six months, dissolving on August 2, 1958, after King Faisal II was deposed by a military coup on July 14, 1958, and the new Iraqi government officially ended the federation.
