Overview
The Beylik of Karasi was a historical Anatolian beylik, founded in 1297 CE and dissolved in 1361 CE. This Turkoman dynasty, also known as the Karasids, ruled the region of Mysia in northwestern Anatolia during the first half of the 14th century. The earliest rulers, Karasi Bey and his father Kalam Shah, are believed to have taken control of the area around Balıkesir, claiming independence from the Sultanate of Rum. After Karasi Bey's death, the dynasty split into two emirates under Demir Khan and Yakhshi Khan. Demir Khan engaged in naval raids against Byzantine territories and later signed a truce with Emperor Andronikos III. The Beylik was eventually acquired by the Ottoman Sultan Orhan.
