Overview
The Blambangan Kingdom was a Javanese Hindu kingdom located in the eastern corner of Java. Flourishing between the 15th and 18th centuries, with its capital at Banyuwangi, it was the last Hindu state on Java. It developed contemporaneously with the larger Majapahit kingdom and, after Majapahit's collapse in the late 15th century, Blambangan controlled much of Java's Oosthoek. The kingdom was dissolved in 1743 CE. Its history is somewhat obscure due to scarce historical records, but it is known through its link to the popular Javanese folklore of Damarwulan and Menak Jingga.
