Overview
The Chaulukya dynasty, also known as the Solanki dynasty, was an Indian dynasty that ruled parts of present-day Gujarat and Rajasthan in north-western India from approximately 940 CE to 1244 CE. Founded by Mularaja around 940 CE, with its capital at Anahilavada (modern Patan), the dynasty at times extended its rule to the Malwa region. The kingdom reached its peak in the 12th century under Jayasimha Siddharaja and Kumarapala, despite facing invasions, such as the Ghaznavid raid on the Somnath temple during Bhima I's reign. The dynasty eventually weakened due to internal rebellions and invasions, leading to the usurpation of power by the Vaghelas in the 1240s.
