Overview

The County of Aragon, also known as the County of Jaca, was a small Frankish marcher county in the central Pyrenean valley of the Aragon river. Founded around 802 CE by the Carolingians, it comprised Ansó, Echo, and Canfranc, centered on the town of Jaca. It soon fell under the influence of the Kingdom of Navarre, into which it was absorbed in 922. The county was dissolved in 1035 CE and later formed the core of the 11th-century Kingdom of Aragon.
