Overview
The Duchy of Bytom was a principality in Upper Silesia, founded around 1281 as one of the fragmented Piast-ruled Silesian duchies in Poland. It was established during the division of the Duchy of Opole and Racibórz among the sons of Duke Władysław Opolski. Its capital was Bytom, which had been attached to the Silesian Duchy of Racibórz in 1177 by Polish High Duke Casimir II the Just. The Duchy of Bytom was dissolved in 1498.
