Overview
The Duchy of Masovia was a district principality and a fiefdom of the Kingdom of Poland, existing during the Middle Ages. Formed in 1138 from the territories of the Kingdom of Poland following its fragmentation, it was centered in Mazovia in the northeastern Kingdom of Poland. Its capital was located in Płock, Czersk, and Warsaw at various times. The duchy experienced periods of fragmentation into smaller duchies, such as Kuyavia, Dobrzyń, and Czersk, and subsequent unification. It existed from 1138 to 1275, 1294 to 1310, 1370 to 1381, and 1495 to 1526, when it was incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland.
