Overview
The Duchy of Silesia, with its capital at Wrocław, was a medieval provincial duchy of Poland located in the historic region of Silesia. Founded in 1138 under the Piast dynasty, it soon fragmented into various Silesian duchies. In 1327, the remaining Duchy of Vratislava and most other Silesian Piast-ruled duchies passed under the suzerainty of the Kingdom of Bohemia. This acquisition was finalized in 1335 when King Casimir III the Great of Poland renounced his rights to Silesia in the Treaty of Trentschin. The duchy was ultimately dissolved in 1742.
