Overview
Germany, officially the Federal Republic of Germany, is a country located in Western and Central Europe. Founded on May 23, 1949, it lies between the Baltic and North Seas to the north and the Alps to the south. Its capital was Bonn from November 29, 1949, until October 2, 1990, after which Berlin became the capital. Germany is a founding member of the European Economic Community and has a population of over 82 million across its sixteen constituent states, making it the most populous member of the European Union.
