Overview
The First Sealand dynasty, also known as the 2nd Dynasty of Babylon, was a dynasty of southern Mesopotamia that emerged around 1732 BCE. Though independent of Amorite-ruled Babylon, it broke free from the Old Babylonian Empire. Named for a swampy province in southern Mesopotamia, the dynasty's kings are primarily known through references in ancient king lists. Sealand pottery has been discovered in sites like Girsu, Uruk, and Lagash. While later kings adopted pseudo-Sumerian names and cultural motifs, the population predominantly spoke and wrote in Akkadian.
