Overview
France Antarctique, also known as Antarctic France, was a French colony established in 1555 in present-day Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It controlled the coast from Rio de Janeiro to Cabo Frio and quickly became a haven for Huguenots. The colony existed until 1567 when it was ultimately destroyed by the Portuguese.
